WEEK 17 (MAY 03)
After a long break
I am here after a long long break. What I did? I was struggling with everything, especially my thoughts. Fighting yourself as an artist is the worst. You, as a person and artist, are capable of a lot of things and you have a talent for it, but the worst thing is that you can't tear yourself between all the activities and artworks you want to do.
I have time, I have an OK laptop, I have enough reference and almost enough knowledge to finalise my Final Major Project, but I didn't. Because I didn't want to. I was tired of it and I did not enjoy a moment working on it for the last month or two. And it is so hard on something you don't like.
So "What you did?" you might ask. I was enjoying my free time from University, I was working my part-time job and saving money and trying to survive this COVID-19 thing, that ruined all my plans. And then I thought, OK if I am not working on my FMP, I should work on something. I am going to be a graduate soon who needs to have something to show. So, I started a personal project and I was working on it for some time. Yes, it took a lot of time out of my FMP, but at least I enjoyed what I did. I can't say I am excited to get back to my FMP, but I feel a little bit better continuing working on it.
FMP: asset improvements
I improved and detailed models in my production line. Some of them are finished, some not.
I started unwrapping and thinking about how should I texture it. Screenshots and more of my project will be uploaded next week.
Personal project:
It is not a personal project blog and I fully understand that but I just wanted to share what I did for it. Just to share, what I enjoyed doing and how my future 3D artworks could look like. I really love cars and I starting to regret not choosing 3 car models for my FMP. My classmate Augustinas did and I am jealous now. I was thinking Piece of environment could get you a job, I don't think 3 vehicles will... But you have to do what you love, that is how you'll produce good quality.
Everything is in still in modeling state and roughly block-outs to illustrate my ideas. So, what exactly am I doing here?
Remember those good-old-days when NFSU2 was around and when the player could modify car bumper-bumper individually? Players loved that and they been asking for it for years! It is an enjoyable thing to do in a racing game and it gives your personal touch to a car you race.
After a long time car fanatics finally received what they wanted - NFS HEAT with sicko-mode customisations. Icons like GOLF MK-1, BMW E30, Skyline R34, MAZDA RX-7 are in this game alongside brand new modern cars and the best part - you can customise it however you want.
There is a new trend going on for the while, where customization of the cars reached different level. Super wide body-kits, enormous spoilers and huge air-cutting diffusers. It all started with various car concepts and 3D car models with sci-fi modifications, but it has overgrown into quite realistic car mods that people started to love and imply to their real cars.
Well-known artist Khyzyl Saleem (also known by KYZA) in his Artstation posts magnificent work he does on iconic cars, no matter modern or old. He worked with NFS:Heat and they wanted to modify real VOLVO into one of his creations for Promo Car project. It looks so good, that my english vocabulary can't describe how good it looks.
One day KYZA posted 360 turntable video of one of his projects and he made a comment, that it took an eternity to render this 10sec video. Umm, YEAH! He works with a 3DsMax and renders everything with CoronaRenderer.
Rendering takes a lot of time, we talking 30min-120min, but to render 10sec video on a 30-60FPS takes an eternity! And I saw a good opportunity here. What if I create this high-detailed model of a car with all these mods on it and place it in UE4 where everything is in real-time? Of course, I won't produce such quality like Corona, but I have a huge advantage - movement. I can do 360 of my vehicle and better - moving parts. I am not talking just about door opening, I am talking of car modifications! I can create a video of how I modified my car and rendering won't be a problem. So I will take a Porsche 944 turbo and will squeeze every drop of juice out of it.
Abandoned Stock Racing LeMans Stance Sci-Fi Racer Rat-style Sand-beater
...you name it.
Every modification will be shown in real life, just like in an NFS game. I will produce a couple different looks and show my true art skills. Imagine, a camera flying around the shiny car and modifying it like in a game!
What I have so far?
So far, everything is messy and floating around everywhere. I am just modeling different parts for different styles. Widebodies, lights, air-intake holes, massive diffusers, roof racks etc... There is a lot of work, but with this passion for cars I have, I will make it work and look absolutely stunning.
Even I am angry at myself for my indecisiveness and immaturity, I know, I can produce a good piece of art if I want to. But I am glad that I have one person who is indecisive and creative just like me - my father. He created this piece of art (red vehicle on the right) with his own hands and skills. I just need to work with myself and stay positive.
Here is my mood-board and my plans for my project:
So yeah, I am back. I have couple weeks to finish my FMP and graduate... I will try my best.
