WEEK 7 (FEB 23)
Inspiring week
My FMP is slowly getting there, my Robot is getting in shape, hopefully my animations going to work and last week's industry talk was awesome!
Story of Product-3
So I wanted to name my robot. I was naming it Product for a while and I came up with this idea of short backstory. Things might change but this is what I have for now:
This company already created the first prototype (PR372-HMGen-1) years ago and later they developed it and finalised it into a fully functioning robot. It was called Product372-HMGen-1 or Product1.
The company continued distributing various mechanical parts for machines to other companies and they already had planned to release the second robot.
Software developers were working side by side with hardware engineers and they developed a program that was able to learn. It was named 22OS. <...> Years passed and artificial intelligence took over the company. It had all the access to the files in the system and found the plans for a new robot and launched it. It was a second-generation robot, but third product including the first prototype so computer automatically generated name for it: Product372-TMGen-2e and called it Product3.
Into details
I decided to enhance my robot block-out a little bit. I gathered more reference and started modeling my robot. I separated the scalp and jaw from the head for future animation. I thought it would be really interesting to watch how the robotic arm opens the head and installs OS. When the jaw opens, there is a port and it will be used for some kind of charging/rebooting operations. It could look a bit unpleasant.
Slow workflow
Screen Skills talk
What an industry talk it was! ScreenSkills arrived at DMU with two strong inspiring speakers and they inspired us indeed.

Slow workflow
I can't say it was a productive week. I keep tidying meshes of my level in UE4 by replacing and rearranging it. It is a bit hard to plan everything because if some things will work - others will not. It takes time to arrange your thoughts and wrap them around your project.
Animation test
Some things are a bit hard to imagine, that is why I set up a little playground outside my warehouse where I can test things. And I started messing around with animation. So far it is just a U-turn with a couple of stops, but it works! I can't wait to develop further animation and try to assemble my robot.

Screen Skills talk
What an industry talk it was! ScreenSkills arrived at DMU with two strong inspiring speakers and they inspired us indeed.
They started with question "Who am I?" and told us to be curious, be ambitious and ACT instead of overthinking it! They talked about our skills and unique selling point. As a graduates, we need to sell ourselves without bragging and being arrogant but somehow we also need to tell them that we are their best choice!
We covered our online profiles and how we should present ourselves. They mentioned a couple things about rebranding your profile and I am thinking about it since I am a student from Lithuania with a long weird surname. That is the reason why I have a couple accounts with Rob.Arlee name.
They covered some pros and cons of being a freelancer after graduation and that could be hard for us. Getting clients, figuring out your hourly rates and taking care of your taxes.
We talked about CV and cover letter - all these important things you need to have and how good they have to be.
In the second part of this talk, they talked about meetings with recruiters and interviews. I am a bit worried about it and soon we will start applying everywhere and having all this stress!
Several people were in this second part of this talk - couple artists, directors and recruiters and they all had so much interesting to say. I am glad that after everything we had a chance to talk about the industry with them and they answered all our questions.
For the next week
On the next week, I will work more on animation and hopefully, I will show something interesting for my tutors on Thursday's presentation. Time is running out, I need to focus on my project and push the pedal to the metal.
