Week 2 (JAN 19)

Getting into engine

2nd week was quite easy and relaxing. I have an idea, I have the reference and I can see the final image in my head, so I just created a new UE4 file and started playing with chunks of geometry. I created a couple 2x2m or 4x4m planes and started planing layout of my facility.

Project too big?

Well well well... Like always, I want to do more than I can. Sometimes it is a good thing, because I always try to do stretch goals in uni briefs, and on top of that I have my own stretch goals as well. This project is quite big. I am planning to do reception, leading to the corridor and the main facility, where the production line will be. BUT. How about other rooms? This is a big company where people used to work in. That means it will need offices upstairs, canteen, hangers and lockers, outside area for smoking or eating lunch. It has to be an ecosystem where people used to work - eat - chill and so on. I don't know how I am going to make it, but I will try to show as many facilities as I can.

Heavy load

I am a bit worried that my project will be heavy for engine and computer (especially for my laptop at home), so I was thinking to divide rooms into different levels in UE4, like in those good old days, when you enter a Cluckin'-Bell in GTA SA, and you appear somewhere in the world. I will try to create sub-levels if my project will be too big. There is going to be a lot of action in the main area, so I am a bit afraid that performance will be affected even though the player is on the other side of the level. There is a way, where you can load and unload part of your levels by hitting the trigger box. Let's say, you place the trigger 5 meters from the door, and when the player runs into it and activates the trigger, your level will upload before you will open the door. Hopefully, the player won't be able to tell that.

Blockout and first impressions

So I already started building the layout, then the walls, and here I am polishing my facade and placing some sliding doors here and there. Here you can see results:
